Mark 12:28-31: One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
I love the simplicity of "Love God. Love Others." As Caleb and I were talking last night he reminded me that Jesus says to "Love your neighbor as yourself." I think I forget the "as yourself" part of that. What about you? How do you love and care for yourself? Sometimes I think it's too selfish to consider caring for myself. Sometimes I'm my harshest critic, but negative self talk and beating myself up over past mistakes, insecurities, and imperfections is not loving and it's not how our loving Father wants me to be treated or treat myself. What about you? Are you holding on to something that you need to release? Are you loving and forgiving yourself the way God would call you to love and forgive others?
Love God. Love other. But don't forget to be loving to yourself too.
