“Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. 23 “I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.” -Mark 11:22-25
Two simple conditions. Doesn't that sound great? Two simple steps for prayer. However, neither one is easy: believe and forgive. I've really been challenged with the forgiveness part this week. Why? Because I've had people hurt me very deeply. I don't want to forgive. I want to hold on to my pain. Why? I guess it's human nature. There seems to be two parts to forgiveness: speak it and then work with God to soften your heart until you get to the point of feeling it. I encourage you to take the first step today. Speak to God your forgiveness of the people who hurt you. Then ask him to work on your heart so that you completely mean it. Look for an opportunity to express your forgiveness to that person. You will be glad you did.
