Mark 11 covers Sunday (1-11), Monday (12-29) and Tuesday (20--13:37) before Jesus is crucified on Friday. Understanding this puts these events in a different perspective for me. All of these events happen with Jesus knowing he will be crucified at the end of the week. Everything changes when you know you are near the end. Perhaps that is why we see an emphasis on his authority in this chapter: his entry into Jerusalem as the Messiah, the cursing of the fig tree, clearing the temple and the authority challenge at the end. This is a week to stand in awe of his power, authority and majesty.
